–No Child is allowed to walk into the theatre with a costume on. Strongly enforced.

–Please label your children’s Costumes, bags, shoes, etc.

–Parents, we ask you to volunteer on our sign-up sheets on our studio bulletin board. Multiple volunteers are needed for each performance.

–See your class instructor or Miss Marylee with any questions or concerns

Including the important rules previously mentioned, we would also like to remind you of how our studio policies work as well as professional performance conduct as we enter our performance season:

  • Miss Marylee and the Dance Gallery Chicago professional staff has the right to ask any dancer, family or patron to leave the theatre and/or studio if not upholding our studio rules with respect and professionalism.
  • There is general seating only at Mother McAuley performances. The doors will open 30 minutes before each show time. No one will be allowed into the theatre before that point.
  • There are no refunds on recital ticket sales. All sales are final.
  • For the safety of our performers, there is no flash photography or video taping allowed. This rule is strictly enforced during all of the performances. Please tell all of your family members this rule. Order Forms for DVD’s of the performances will be available.

(you may turn in your DVD order form to the main office from April 15 2019- June 1, 2019, cut off date is June 1st!)

  • Professional videographers will be recording our performance
  • You may record or take photos during dress rehearsal, but keep in mind the director will also be giving directions during the dress rehearsal too.
  • All makeup and hair should be done at home, prior to bring your child to the theatre. Please follow the specific hair style and makeup for each class (your instructor for each class will guide you through this. Please make notes. Ask ahead of time if you are unsure.)
  • Remember, no child is allowed to walk into the theatre with a costume on. Strongly enforced. (change costumes backstage.)
  • no jewelry is allowed on any dancer
  • bring all the necessities you may need to perform: extra tights, bobby pins, pony tails, hair nets, hair spray, accessories and head pieces, gloves, safety pins, etc.
  • If you are late for a rehearsal or performance, the show goes on with out you. We do not hold the show for absent dancers.
  • It is your responsibility to check and double-check your schedule and all of your rehearsal times. Arrive early so you can relax and warm-up appropriately to perform.
  • your child may wear a large button-down shirt over their costume. This will protect the costume as they are waiting in the backstage area.
  • no shimmery tights, the material catches light and enlarges the structure of the leg. *Ask your instructor about the appropriate tights for your dancers’ class.
  • no underwear is to be worn beneath costumes.
  • Please ensure older dancers have the proper coverage and support when wearing each costume. We want you to be well-supported onstage. However, we should not see any strange straps or lines from the audience. A tan leotard is always a great option for underneath most costumes.
  • Label all costumes, shoes, tights, bags, etc. this will prevent any confusion. Some classes have 20+ dancers all with the same costume. Put your initials inside the costume on the inner tag.
  • only water bottles and a light snack are allowed. Too many costumes are ruined due to food, pop and juice spilling on costumes
  • If you would like to share your performance and backstage photos with Dance Gallery’s Facebook page or Instagram, follow and tag us! “Dance Gallery Chicago”
  • no one will be allowed to walk up and down the aisles at the theatre
  • If you are late for the opening act, you must wait until after the current dance piece ends to find your seat. Do not interrupt the beautiful dancers, while finding your seat. This is very disrespectful.
  • Please follow these same rules if you must leave the theatre for any reason. Please leave after a piece has ended.
  • some performers use the aisles and audience space to enter or exit, they must be clear
  • ADA accessible areas will be marked for our ADA patrons
  • our ushers will strictly enforce all rules we have setup in the theatre
  • Please communicate all of these performance rules to your entire viewing party
  • no balloons will be allowed inside the building
  • do not dress your child in the public audience bathrooms. That is very unprofessional. Go backstage into the designate dressing areas.
  • Dance Gallery staff will transport all small and large props to the theatre. It is your responsibility as dancers to respect these props, use them for your dance and keep track of them. They will remain backstage each day for rehearsal and through all the performances. Some dancers may be put in charge of certain large props.
  • Any drama or disrespect back stage will not be tolerated. You will be asked to leave by the director.
  • Overall: be patient, be kind, whisper backstage, listen to your director and instructors, follow all of the rules.
  • Focus on what you need and your dance performance! This is your time to shine! We have worked all year for this! *Smile and have fun*
  • Fun fact: most of our dancers continue to perform with us for 10+ years in a row! Are you a “lifer” for Dance Gallery? 🙂

To my parents, I thank you from the bottom of my heart for all of our support and work throughout the year.

To my dancers, I am so proud of you. You have given me such joy, and I thank God for every single one of you. May all the dancing angels be with you in your performances and always.

“Here’s to a Great Show!”
